Casino bonus turnover requirements, explained
The headline percentage on a welcome offer is marketing. The turnover requirement is the price. This guide shows you how to convert any Kenyan casino bonus into the number that actually matters — how much you must stake to keep the money — and how the eleven operators we rank compare once you do.
What turnover actually means
Turnover, also called wagering or rollover, is the multiple of the bonus you must place in qualifying stakes before the bonus balance becomes withdrawable cash. If you receive a Ksh 10,000 bonus with a 10x turnover requirement, you must place Ksh 100,000 of qualifying bets. That is cumulative stakes, not losses: a Ksh 1,000 bet that wins and returns Ksh 1,800 still counts once towards the requirement, and you may then restake the returns.
This is why turnover is not the same as risk. Staking Ksh 100,000 across many bets does not mean losing Ksh 100,000. What you expect to lose is roughly the required turnover multiplied by the operator’s margin. At a 6% overround, clearing Ksh 100,000 of turnover costs you around Ksh 6,000 in expectation. That is the real fee attached to a Ksh 10,000 bonus — and it is why a sharper book with a slightly smaller bonus is frequently the better deal.
The four clauses that change everything
What the multiplier applies to
“10x the bonus” and “10x bonus plus deposit” look almost identical and differ by a factor of two on a 100% match. On a Ksh 20,000 deposit with a Ksh 20,000 bonus, the first demands Ksh 200,000 of stakes and the second Ksh 400,000. Check this clause first, every time.
Minimum qualifying odds
Almost every Kenyan operator requires each leg to be priced above a floor, commonly between 1.50 and 3.00. A low multiplier paired with a high odds floor can be harder to clear than a higher multiplier at short prices, because higher odds mean higher variance and a greater chance your balance hits zero before the requirement is met. Melbet and 22Bet both advertise 5x turnover; read their odds floors before assuming they are equivalent.
Game and market contribution
Not every stake counts fully. Slots typically contribute 100% towards casino bonuses, table games 10–20%, live dealer often 0%. On the sportsbook side, cashed-out bets, void selections, and both sides of the same market usually contribute nothing. If you hedge to clear a requirement quickly, expect the terms to exclude exactly that.
The time limit
Most Kenyan welcome bonuses expire in 7 to 30 days. Divide the required turnover by the days available and compare that to what you would normally stake in a week. If clearing the bonus requires you to bet four times your usual volume, the bonus is choosing your stake size for you — which is the outcome the offer is designed to produce, and the one to refuse.
Working an example
Suppose an operator offers a Ksh 20,000 bonus at 10x on the bonus alone. That is Ksh 200,000 of qualifying stakes. If the book you are clearing it at holds a 5% margin, the expected cost of pushing that volume through is about Ksh 10,000, so half the bonus survives. At an 8% margin the expected cost is Ksh 16,000 and almost nothing survives. The multiplier is identical in both cases; the price you pay per bet is what decides whether the offer is worth taking. Operators do not publish their margins, so compare a handful of the same selections across two books before you commit.
Turnover across the operators we rank
| Casino | Bonus | Turnover | Stakes needed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Betnare | Up to 0.5% rebate on every bet, win or lose (up to Ksh 100,000 a day) | Not published | Ksh 0 |
| Betika | First deposit of the day bonus (percentage and cap not published) | Not published | Ksh 0 |
| SportPesa | Bonus terms not verified | Not published | Ksh 0 |
| MozzartBet | 50% free bet up to Ksh 2,500 | Not published | Ksh 0 |
| Betway | Bonus terms not verified | Not published | Ksh 0 |
| Bangbet | Bonus terms not verified | Not published | Ksh 0 |
| Melbet | Bonus terms not verified | Not published | Ksh 0 |
| KE7 | Not published | Not published | Ksh 0 |
| 22Bet | 100% up to Ksh 15,000 | 5x | Ksh 75,000 |
| Wezabet | 300% accumulator bonus + 5% deposit bonus | 10x | Ksh 0 |
| OdiBets | 50% up to Ksh 20,000 | 20x | Ksh 400,000 |
Read that final column carefully. Melbet asks for Ksh 100,000 of stakes to clear a Ksh 20,000 bonus; OdiBets asks for Ksh 400,000 to clear a Ksh 20,000 one. Those are not comparable offers, even though both are advertised in percentages.
A short checklist before you claim
- Screenshot the terms page on the day you claim.
- Confirm whether the multiplier hits bonus only or bonus plus deposit.
- Note the minimum odds per leg and the expiry date.
- Check whether cashed-out bets count.
- Divide required stakes by days remaining, and refuse the offer if that number exceeds your normal betting volume.
- Prefer a sharper book with a smaller bonus over a wide-margin book with a large one.
